The 2025 Conway Lectures Day One: Setting Records

In honor of Robert M. and Ricki Conway, the Medieval Institute’s annual Conway Lectures bring senior scholars of international distinction to Notre Dame each fall to speak on topics across a variety of disciplines. The theme of the 2025 Conway Lectures is “Setting Records: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Medieval Chanceries.”
Join us for the first day on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. ET. All lectures will be held in-person at the Eck Visitors Center and livestreamed.
Speakers:
2:00–3:30 p.m.: Petra Sijpesteijn (University of Leiden), “Running the early Islamic Empire: the papyrological evidence”
3:45–5:15 p.m.: Graham Loud (University of Leeds), “The Sicilian Chancery, from the Normans to Frederick II”
