Sustainability and Heritage Survey at Kylemore

The Global Centre at Kylemore hosts programs from multi-disciplines. Last March 2020 before the COVID-19 lockdown the Global Centre hosted a program for students interested in sustainability and heritage. Students led by Professor Brad Weldon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, conducted a field survey and data collection of Kylemore, providing students with hands-on research experience integrating engineering in a cultural, historical, and sustainable context. This included identifying potential preservation priorities, 3D modeling to digitally preserve existing structures as well as addressing heritage from a holistic point of view encompassing: Nature (geography, climate, ecology) and Culture (history, society, economy) and Technology. This project was sponsored by the School of Architecture and coordinated with Professor John Odhaimbo Onyango.
