Old Forgotten Words and Ancient Melodies

This talk features Carole Baker (Duke Divinity School) on “The Icon as Exemplary Image: Reflections on Iconology and the Visual Arts”, Jay Martin (University of Notre Dame) on “‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night’: The Foreclosure of Desire and the Failure of Law in the Americana Murder Ballad”, and James Wilson (Yale Divinity School) on “Faulkner, Religion, and the Modern World.” Session chaired by Jeffrey Pojanowski (University of Notre Dame). Presented at the Center for Ethics and Culture’s 2018 Fall Conference, “Higher Powers.” The Conference explored the perennial problem of good and evil, the significance of this distinction for human flourishing and the common good, and the place of good and evil in the theory and practice of various academic disciplines.
