Fr. Ted Said… Bridge Builders: John Scully ’80
Around the world, many observers are concerned about losing a sense of community as fewer and fewer people feel a responsibility to care for others. With a growing and often welcome emphasis on individual rights and freedoms, how should we—individually and collectively—think about our responsibilities to one another? In a world where ideological and cultural divisions seem to have deepened and caused terrible suffering, we are called to build bridges between people to face the challenges of our times. Be inspired by our speaker lineup of alumni and faculty who are bridge builders in a fractured world – just like Fr. Ted.

John Scully ’90 was football tri-captain and unanimous All-American center at Notre Dame in 1980. He also played football for the Atlanta Falcons from 1981-90. Scully began working in the music studio with Grammy winning producer, Jim Tullio in 1993, writing, producing, and performing on many commercial spots for national radio and television and multiple recording projects. He wrote and produced ‘Here Come the Irish’ in 1997 with Tullio, sung by Cathy Richardson. Scully then began an insurance career in 2001 and became a national executive for AIG by 2005, followed by senior executive roles elsewhere in the years following. He began Scully Consulting LLC in 2013.
