Global Trends Shaping the Long-Term Future

Global Trends Shaping the Long-Term Future

Ten Years Hence aims to engage in some structured speculation about the future – specifically the decade just ahead and the world we’re likely to inhabit ten years from now. We’ll do that from a number of perspectives, but all of it will be focused on one question: Is Globalism Dead?

Meet the Speaker: Maria Langan-Riekhof

Maria Langan-Riekhof is the Director of the Strategic Futures Group at the National Intelligence Council, leading the Intelligence Community’s assessment of global dynamics and charged with producing the
quadrennial Global Trends product. She has spent more than 29 years in the intelligence community as both a senior analyst and manager, serving at the CIA and on the NIC. She brings a background in Middle East studies and has spent more than half her career analyzing regional dynamics.

Her leadership roles include: Chief of the CIA’s Red Cell, founder and director of the CIA’s Strategic Insight Group, and research director for the Middle East. She was one of the DNI’s Exceptional Analysts in 2008-09 and the Agency’s fellow at the Brookings Institution in 2016-17. She is a member of the Senior Analytic Service and the Senior Intelligence Service and holds degrees from the University of Chicago and the

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Mendoza College of Business signature lecture series, Ten Years Hence. We invite you to join with us to see and hear a variety of experts talk about this year’s topic, framed around a question: “Is Globalism Dead?”

Some of our speakers will say the answer is “yes,” while others will say, “definitely not.” Still others aren’t so sure, offering a qualified, “perhaps.” Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10:40am ET, Maria Langan-Riekhof will join us to speak on “Global Trends Shaping the Long-Term Future.” Experience the series virtually with 75 current Notre Dame students in Jordan Auditorium for a session that promises to be engaging, informative, and fun.

Join us on select Friday mornings throughout the spring semester to learn more about the global economy and a range of related issues such as global health concerns, migration, global governance, and the intersection of public policy and the public good.
