Meet the Speaker: Emily Talen

Emily Talen is professor in the Division of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Her research is devoted to urban design and urbanism, especially the relationship between the built environment and social equity. She holds a PhD in urban geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s in city planning from Ohio State University. She is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. Talen has written extensively on the topics of urban design, New Urbanism, and social equity. She has published over seventy peer-reviewed articles and five books: Neighborhood; City Rules; Design for Diversity; Urban Design Reclaimed; and New Urbanism and American Planning.
