Vanessa Gail Perry, MBA, PhD is Professor at the George Washington University, School of Business.

Her research on consumers in financial and housing markets has been published widely and cited in a host of national media outlets. In addition, she has been an invited speaker on issues related to mortgage lending, access to credit, and fair housing.

From 2016-2017, Professor Perry served as Senior Advisor on Housing Finance at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She was appointed in 2011 as an expert on consumer information at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She has also provided consulting services to numerous public and private sector clients, including the Bank of America, the National Association of Realtors, the IRS, and the Federal Housing Administration.

Dr. Perry has held several administrative positions at GWU, including Department Chair (2012-2014), Assistant Dean for Specialized Masters Programs(2013-2014), Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Programs (2014-2015), and Interim Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion (2015-2016).

Professor Perry has received several awards for her documentary film, “Dog Parks and Coffee Shops: Diversity Seeking in Urban Neighborhoods,” co-produced with Professor Sonya Grier of the American University. She won the Best Paper Award from the Journal of Consumer Affairs. She has also received several teaching honors.

Before joining the faculty at GWU, Professor Perry was a Senior Economist at Freddie Mac. Professor Perry holds a BA in Philosophy from The American University, an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
