Conventional Weapons as Symbolic Signals

Jen Spindel is an assistant professor of political science at the University of New Hampshire, where her research focuses on international security, foreign policy, and alliance politics. Her dissertation on signaling and conventional weapons sales won the Kenneth Waltz Award for best dissertation in international security, awarded by the American Political Science Association.

Her research has been published or is forthcoming in Security Studies, the Journal of Global Security Studies, Foreign Policy Analysis, and Armed Forces & Society. She is working on a book manuscript that shows the symbols and shared understandings that underpin the global conventional weapons trade. This event was recorded on September 27, 2022.
