OVI Seminar Series 2024, V: Linguistic Contact in Sardinia in the Medieval Period

Starting from the studies of Max Leopold Wagner, the linguistic contact in the Middle Ages with the Tuscan of Pisa and, to a lesser extent, with the people of the coastal region of Liguria was seen as an important exogenous factor capable of significantly affecting the development of the Sardinian language, not only on a lexical level. Our speakers will examine written evidence in particular, and give an up-to-date overview of the ways and directions in which this phenomenon took place, including, in some cases, a ‘colonial’ dimension to the languages transplanted into the island. Join us on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET.

Speakers:
Sara Ravani
Giovanni Lupinu
