Locating Racial Violence – Cultivating Peace

Join us for a panel discussion, part of the University’s 11th annual “Walk the Walk Week,” on how racial violence is identified, perpetuated, and confronted in society, with a spotlight thrown on how it is reproduced in the built environment.
Dr. Gwendolyn Purifoye, assistant professor of Racial Justice and Conflict Transformation, will moderate this discussion about the ways that racial violence manifests itself both materially and spatially. Scholar panelists will address how racial violence is built into structures and reproduced across time and into spaces — and how this contributes to embodied experiences with long lasting consequences.
The discussion will address the damaging impact of this type of violence for society and the body politic, and how individuals absorb and navigate the conditions of racial violence. Panelists will also highlight the tools necessary to establish sustainable foundations for peace that can be localized and globalized.
The event is hosted by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and co-sponsored by the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights, both part of the Keough School of Global Affairs.
The session will be held in person in the Hesburgh Auditorium, in the Hesburgh Center for International Studies, as well as being held live on Zoom.
Join us on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
