Afghanistan and Central Asia: Taliban Rule, Economic Projects, and Regional Stability
Regional economic projects in Afghanistan have a new dynamic since the Taliban came to power in 2021. Although Afghanistan has been isolated from much of the global financial system, South and Central Asian nations and China are willing to continue implementing Republic-era projects and may be open to new investments as illustrated by a recent $2.8 billion agreement with Uzbekistan. However, the status of the region’s economic engagement with the Taliban raises critical questions about the balance between economic cooperation and political realities.
Join a discussion led by a panel of experts from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, who will analyze these critical issues and explore the challenges and opportunities ahead for regional stability.
