The Transatlantic Chesterton: Reflections on the 100th Anniversary of Chesterton’s Visit to America

G.K. Chesterton was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Chesterton’s first trip to America. On that four-month lecture tour, he gave over 50 speeches in over 30 cities, all to sold-out, standing-room-only audiences, and he was always the headline when he came into town. He said he had come “to lose my impressions of America.”

Through his travels, Chesterton connected with America because of his ability to express universal truths. In this presentation, Dale Ahlquist will reflect on the striking observations Chesterton made about America and the unique perspective he gave us of America. Ahlquist will also share an update on the great and growing appreciation of Chesterton outside of his native England. This event was recorded on November 10, 2021.
