Founded by the College of Arts and Letters in 1984, the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts helps advance research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. From getting projects off the ground to sharing their impact with the world, ISLA ensures faculty and students at all levels of experience get the research support they need and the scholarly recognition they deserve.
We directly fund research projects and creative works, domestic and international travel, fieldwork, summer study opportunities, thesis and dissertation enhancements, and publication production costs. We also provide funding for lecture series, visiting scholars, and academic conferences.
ISLA aspires to be an unparalleled resource that empowers students and faculty to uncover the truths, ideas, and values that shape our world. We strive to continuously create, enhance, and refresh programs and partnerships that enable transformative discovery and inspired creative work that positively impact our local, national, and global communities.
ISLA is pleased to share opportunities to learn through the Institute to the alumni, parents, and friends of the Notre Dame family on ThinkND.
Best wishes from campus,
