With Ralph Wood (Baylor University) on “The Uniquely Orthodox Character of Solzhenitsyn’s Literary Imagination,” David Deavel (St. Thomas University) on “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness in Solzhenitsyn,” and Jessica Hooten Wilson (John Brown University) on “How Fiction Defeats Lies: A Reading of Solzhenitsyn’s In the First Circle.” Session chaired by Jennifer Newsome Martin (University of Notre Dame). Presented at the Center for Ethics and Culture’s 2018 Fall Conference, “Higher Powers.” The Conference explored the perennial problem of good and evil, the significance of this distinction for human flourishing and the common good, and the place of good and evil in the theory and practice of various academic disciplines.
